My Wife and I had our first Bernese in 1992, a bitch named Jasmin. She was the start of my love for the breed. I knew we would never only have one and in 1993 along came Jacob. He was quite lively and needed a task in life. A friend of ours had a cart and we knew the working abilities of the Bernese, so we decided to give it a go. The place was Towcester, the GB Garden Party.

We harnessed JACOB up and with alot of I'm not doing this and what are you trying to do to me, we were off. It was at this point I thought there must be another way of training a dog to pull a cart other than straight in at the deep end.

In a way JACOB taught me. He settled down and became a truly enthausiastic draught Dog, taking carting to its limits, sand, sea and mud you name it we carted through it!

Some people ask me what makes me a cart trainer, the truth is I love it and I like to help dogs and owners enjoy it as much as I have. Just remember that a Bernese Mountain Dogis a working breed and carting is part of its history, a part that I feel every Bernese should be given the chance to try.

Since Starting with the breed we have owned five Bernese, JASMIN, JACOB, BRADLEY, ABBEY & DEXTER and two Newfoundlands, KAYLIE & ALFIE. All have tried carting with varying success, but we always have fun and thats what it is all about
